About Moose’s Tooth Pub and Pizzeria
Anchorage-based Fresh Ale Pubs, LLC owns and operates the Moose’s Tooth Pub & Pizzeria, Broken Tooth Brewing, and Bear Tooth Theatrepub and Grill, all of which are named after mountain peaks in the Alaska Range. Together, the businesses provide craft beer and locally made spirits, gourmet pizza, movies, concerts, and community events in Alaska’s largest city. Since first opening Moose’s Tooth in 1996, brothers Rod and Warren Hancock have expanded the business to provide a variety of dining experiences, opening the Bear Tooth Theatrepub and Grill in 2000, offering a pub restaurant as well as a large auditorium for dinner and a movie, concerts, and shows. Broken Tooth Brewing’s beer is served at both locations, and across the state. Broken Tooth has won two gold and six bronze medals from the Brewers Association’s Great American Beer Festival. For the last several years, Moose’s Tooth has been the highest-grossing single-unit independent pizzeria in the nation.
AGC Services Provided
In 2000, Alaska Growth Capital provided a loan to Fresh Ale Pubs, LLC to purchase the Moose’s Tooth Pub & Pizzeria building and land.
“About four years after opening Moose’s Tooth, we had the opportunity to purchase the restaurant property. This was our chance to start building equity through real estate as well as reduce the stress and insecurity of operating under a lease. But as is often the case in business, the gap between our dreams and our cash was too large. Alaska Growth Capital helped finance the project and gave us the reserves we needed to both purchase and improve the Moose’s Tooth property.”
